More about Gemma:
Born in Vancouver, raised in Calgary, Gemma has lived and worked all over Canada, with a path toward farming unexpectedly shaped by a career in the Performing and Visual Arts. She is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada and attended the Ontario College of Art & Design. Her work as a performer, puppet maker, sculptor, costume designer, and writer have all informed her work on the farm – providing a unique perspective on the details of rural life and alternative farming techniques.
Having moved to Huron County in 2017 with her growing family and looking for a new path and purpose, she began building (what would become) Bayfield Lavender Farm the following year after propagating some (very) old lavender plants she found growing on the property.
She is a member of the Ontario Lavender Association and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
