The farm is (mostly) closed this year.

Things will be a bit different at the lavender farm this Summer: The farm will not be open to the public in the same way it has been for the past three wonderful years. We will still be hosting special events in June and July (stay tuned!). The online shop will still be active… most of the time.
 
Why will our season be shaped this way? Life has thrown a me a curveball.
 
My dear Father is sick: A very aggressive cancer has taken hold of his body and it’s become clear that there is only a limited time left to spend together. Being an only child, I want to make that time as flexible as I can for him. Since the farm is also our home, I want to give our family the space and quiet that we will need in the coming months. This has all been a shock, completely unexpected…and though I deeply value the community that has thrived in our gardens over the past few Summers, I can’t reliably provide the welcome that sustains it this year.
 
The farm itself will still be active: We’ll still be growing, harvesting, and distilling lavender. I will still be making product from our beautiful plants. We will still be raising goats and collecting goat milk for my handcrafted lavender soap. We will still host a handful of professional photo shoots and special gatherings with Cork & Coast, with Dybosia, and with The Den.

I’m so grateful to all of you who have fallen in love with the farm, and I look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

When does the lavender bloom?

At Bayfield Lavender Farm, we’re focused on growing three varieties
of lavender: Hidcote, Melissa, and Grosso. Each of them has distinct qualities
that we can harness in unique ways and the three bloom at a slightly different
times. The dance with the weather to time our harvest is always a gamble but we
can safely guesstimate that you’ll be able to see some blushing and blooming lavender
from mid-June through early-August.

Handcrafted with love.

Each one of our lavender and herbal products are handcrafted by me (Gemma) in small batches right here on our farm. I use homegrown ingredients as much as possible, while any additional materials are sourced locally.

Every plant on the farm is grown naturally, using sustainable practices. Harvest is done by hand.

It's a true commitment. I love every minute.

Lavender Distillation

Almost all Bayfield Lavender Farm products feature our home-distilled lavender essential oil or lavender hydrosol, a floral water that's a byproduct of the steam distillation process. We distill a French hybrid lavender variety called "Grosso" which has a very high oil content. It's a different lavender than what we use in our culinary products. We use an Ontario made stainless steel still that has a bold look, is easy to clean, and produces incredible results.
